What is GOIA?
The
Governor’s Commission on Indian Affairs was authorized by Chapter 81 of
Title 46 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 Comprised of R.S.
46:2301-2303. Under an amendment in 1997 the Commission was renamed the
Office of Indian Affairs and the commission was abolished. The Office of
Indian Affairs is the only agency within the state government whose sole
purpose is to address Indian issues, achieve the goal of Indian
self-determination while at the same time, serve the interests of the
state of Louisiana.
Why does GOIA exist?
The
Governor’s Office of Indian Affairs is the liaison/advocate between the
various departments of governments and the Indian people of our tribal
communities.
